So....Trayvon Martin was a threat to the community. He asked for it. George Zimmerman was defending himself.

Ok.

'I'm not violent; I'm petrified and nervous.' Someone said that over twenty years ago and was scorned, harrassed, intimidated, assaulted, betrayed, shot, robbed, wrongfully incarcerated and finally killed....but the ultimate insult was that he was labelled a thug and he died without clearing his name.  Trayvon and Tupac will both be glorified, deified, lauded as celebrities and 'heroes' but will they ever receive justice? Justice is the FIRST need of society. The first. America has no right claiming to be a civilised society when it has no justice.

I arrived in the USA twenty years ago and stayed in the ghettoes of California. Things were bad then but they are worse now. While spin doctors hyperventilate trying to convince the public that there is no more oppression of colored folks, that gay rights are the new area needing liberation, I see more and more abandoned kids in Watts and Compton, fostered out, state education reduced to not even bare bones, music, drama and art cut and limited breadth for the three Rs. The injustice of the Trayvon Martin case highlights exactly why gangs exist: to be poor in America is a lousy, lousy experience. There is nothing remotely romantic or hopeful about it. To be poor and black in America is still even worse. A black president means nothing apart from, apparently, it is their own fault for being poor. He could do it, why can't you? You are not seen, you do not exist. At least a gang offers them family, a name, a purpose albeit for a short life. It gives them an identity. What is an American if he/she cannot succeed? What is an American if they have no hope of 'happiness', of liberty, of justice?

T.H.U.G.L.I.F.E. - the Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody...I work with youth from these areas every week. Every week, my heart breaks, my purse rattles, trying to mend the holes that a country refuses to acknowledge. Why will ten year olds choose to cover their whole painting or piece of writing over with black paint? Or to paint over the blue and indigo in a rainbow with red? To write as their dream of the future: 'Death' or 'Prison'? What would you do/think if you grew up as a child in a world where there is no care? Someone smiling and giving you a hug and a pat on the back is not CARING. Someone disciplining you, being fair, being there day in day out, watching your back, educating you, doing whatever it takes to raise you to your potential - that's CARE. Don't give young people HATE - George Zimmerman and everyone else who FEARS these frightened young people. Give them LOVE. You claim to be a Christian but the first and only real commandment is LOVE so shut up claiming Jesus - he does not know you. Give young people real love not this hate, this fear. They are the real victims here and this society will reap the fruits of this continued injustice and will not recover. I am not speaking for myself here and I really am not going to waste my breath warning you again. Wake up, America, because it is gone too late.

The Love You Give Little Infants Frees Everybody.  It is that simple. Change your mentality.  Do something real.
