DIAGRAM OF THE HEART signed to Deconstruction Records

The four piece has been a well-kept secret but that is all about to stop.
Kai and Antony, the main songwriters, both hail from London but with very different histories.
Kai: ‘We were both writing individually. Then we hooked up via myspace and did a few songs together. Came up with something we felt was unique. One thing led to another. Both of us did what the other one didn’t so our music is a merging of both of our influences together. ‘
With Kai, it was early Brit pop and with Antony it was rave and dance. Kai is the lead singer with Antony on vocals and keyboard. Other members play drums and guitar.
Antony: ‘We made it in our bedroom but it was always going to be live. The bedroom was called ‘The Naughty Room’. We wanted to make something with the club sensibility.’
Kai: ‘We love the euphoric sense in music, that rave feel where you forget about everything. Beyond escapism. ‘
Antony: ‘I felt dance music had recently become so music heavy in the last few years with very little good lyrical content. Our lyrics are about things that are important to us and how we feel about life. ‘
Antony sent Mike Pickering of Deconstruction a couple of songs , Mike called him in for a meeting and signed them on the spot.
Kai : ‘We provide the feel of club music but lyrically it is very personal. So it’s sounds for the every man. Lost love, lost life.’
Antony: ‘Best gig was Ibiza Rocks (people who go on holiday to let go completely) and also playing with the Scissor Sisters in front of 4000 . We have so much respect and admiration for them. Also, in Manchester (Apollo) where we supported Calvin Harris. He gave us a big shout out and said how much he really enjoyed the show. We love his stuff as well.’
Kai: ‘Our creative vision – every gig it gets bigger and bigger. Nobody has any idea who we are. We’re not stuck up. We go into the crowd after gigs and aren’t pretentious.’
Antony: ‘We’re just aiming for The Shiver. What you used to get with dance.’
They filled the T Break tent on a late wet Saturday afternoon and there were bodies dancing all over, proving their point. Their single (released July 12th) ‘Dead Famous’ has a piano-led heavy bassline and consists of heavy hard beats with a raging chorus. I was reminded of a more funked up Elton John meets Mika meets Scissor Sisters. Soon to be smashing up dancefloors across the planet.
